Freelance Editing Services
Editing is an important part of the writing process, and critical for Independent (Indie) authors. Most writers agree that it is next to impossible to edit one’s own writing – your eye tends to skip over misspellings and mistakes in grammar. That is where an editor come in to play.
My main goal as an editor is to help the author polish up his or her work – to help the story be the best it can be. It is never to change the author’s unique voice or style of writing. I look for issues with spelling, grammar, syntax and flow of the story. I also look at character and plot development. I offer corrections and suggestion through an author’s work using the “track changes” feature and comments made to the side.
FEES: Short stories and novellas – usually .002 cents per word. (For example, a 10,000 word short story would cost $20.)
Full-length novels – I negotiate with the author to stay within their budget. Depending on length, usually $100.
I am always happy to do one chapter for free for an author, so they can see my work and decide if it is compatible with their goals.
